On a chilly winter morning
when you would not want to step out of bed
and touch me with your cold feet instead
when I’ll be trying to finish my nap
I’ll let you play with my hair
I’ll let you cuddle in my sheets
I’ll let you be the drama queen
Even it’ll be tough for me to reach the scale
of your daddy on pampering you
but darling I’ll try as hard as I could.
With sweet innocent warnings
when you would not want to wear warm clothes
and repeatedly rub your nose
‘cause you’ll be about to catch the cold
I’ll warm you up in my arms
I’ll blow the kisses on your cheeks
I’ll sneak the extra jacket in your bag
‘cause that is what you would need
I know it’s difficult to be your Mum
but baby I’ll try as hard as I could.
Pull my hair, knot my shoelaces
Tickle me there, at the right places
I’ll fall and make the funny faces
Anything, to make you smile.
Cry on my shoulder
Tell me all your secrets
Do whatever you would want
But don’t ever regret
You can be all finicky and dependent
I’ll try to be like your brother and your best friend.
I wrote this poem for a friend of mine who’s going to dedicate it to his soon-to-be wife on Valentine’s Day. This lovely couple is getting married next month. I wish them all the tender wishes for happy married life. May their love blossoms throughout this journey called life.
