Magic Slate

3 o’clock, January morning
’08, second week, our love was forming
you said you were missing me
and that, night without me was so boring
I tried but I couldn’t stop myself
Got out in Bermuda shorts and sandals
you lived six blocks away
20 minutes in snow then I rang the doorbell
you opened the door, I grabbed you tight
you kissed me once, I kissed you thrice
Then you slept on my chest and your warm breath
Conquered the deadly ice

It was then now you don’t remember
Our burning love in shivering winter
Things like that you’d always forget
Like your heart, your heart is a magic slate

For 2 weeks we were on vacation
Your 23rd birthday was the occasion
Everyday’s over time, 4 months’ savings
Preparations?!, as if we’re going to the space station
I could do anything to make you smile
My eyes glittered when you jumped like a child
Had you asked for a tour to Mars
I’m sure, I wouldn’t have thought even for awhile
You picked the spot, we were in Hawaii
You jumped into ocean I didn’t know why
It was the prank like you’d planned but you started to drown
I had to rescue you by my own

It was then now you don’t remember
My maiden dive and your blunder
Things like that you’d always forget
Like your heart, your heart is a magic slate

I’d do things for you then I reiterate
You keep on forgetting things like that just like that
Like your heart is a magic slate
I write on it and it gets erased.
