Half of a whole

Do you understand?
How does it feel to be half of a whole?
To be a lover
Dying to live forever together?
No, you don’t
because you’re already complete
and I’m half..
begging for my other part.

I was trying to fit my pieces into you
Split you apart to coagulate with mine
So well I slit myself in half
tried to fix us forever.
I failed
because you had different molecules
and I’m left broken..
begging to be whole again.

I failed to understand our different worlds
Complexities they’d carried
Certainty was always there to fall on face.
(I just couldn’t see)
(I just couldn’t see)
Though we functioned so well nearby
We weren’t meant to be a life
Our lives had to have a distance
(I just couldn’t see)
I just couldn’t see

Do I know?
How to overcome this catastrophe?
to be a survivor
recycle the burnt pieces?
No, I don’t
Because it’s my first time
and I don’t know
how to make whole of a half?

I misinterpreted the force
that was pushing us away
I swear it seemed like love
but those claws were being invited
to cause us decay.
I failed
because I didn’t know love well
So I’m left broken
begging to be whole again.

I failed to understand our different worlds
Complexities they’d carried
Certainty was always there to fall on face.
Though we functioned so well nearby
We weren’t meant to be a life
Our lives had to have a distance.
I just couldn’t see
I just couldn’t see.
